Finviz is a free scanner software that I use every day to find positions to trade. You can pay for an elite version that gives you further filtering and even real time data not delayed by 15min. For me, its not really a big deal but its definitely worth the money. Highly recommend everyone use something like this to capture moves.
This is a quick scan to find penny stocks (under $3) that are moving with abnormal volume. I have relative volume on here set to 2. Which means it is trading 2x the average 3 month trading volume, so it is fairly accurate picking out stocks trying to move. If the market is "dry" and nothing on here is exciting, you can move the relative volume down to 1.5, but just remember that this is just less accurate in predicting big moves.
